The nine Creek Guardians are volunteer members of the community, primarily fishermen, who give up of their own time to help protect the creek, its fish and wildlife. They are dedicated conservation ambassadors who have a long term vision and commitment to preserve the Takaungu creek and reef environment. Creek Guardians play a leading role in all the different initiatives, including tree planting, mangrove restoration, beekeeping, beach cleanups and community gatherings. By building the skills and knowledge of the Creek Guardians, and growing the numbers over time, it is hoped that they become environmental leaders in their community, teaching the young and old alike, and finding new ways to supplement their fishing incomes in the future.
